Our DIR home away from home is on the west end Molokai, often called the last true Hawaiian island OR the Heart of Hawaii – Molokai.  The beautiful 4000 sq foot home sits atop a small bluff at the end of one of Hawaii’s longest white sand beaches.  Beach access is via a 75 metre direct path.  This part of the island is majestic with strong trade winds and crashing waves.  The true Hawaiians in touch with the ancient traditions call this the “Jumping off Point” and say the west end is where the spirits go to transition to the next place.
The area is secluded with 5 acre or larger lots, lush bush and wild deer.  At the other end of the deserted 5 km Popohaku beach is a condo community with many units available for rent via airbnb and other platforms.  Here is a sampling of the properties available:  https://rentals.molokai-vacation-rental.com/rns/vacation-properties/?resgroup=10
There are no restaurants or other amenities at this end of the island.  One small store is available in the condo community as well as another 20 minutes away.  The tourist town is a 30 – 45 minute drive and here you will find two grocery stores, some restaurants, the famous Kanemitsu Bakery.  It is worth a late night drive to get some hot bread with yummy toppings directly from the kitchen.
Complimenting activities have been arranged for this retreat including an early morning outrigger canoeing lesson and experience through the sea turtle fields, a visit to a macadamia nut farm, coffee plantation, and ancient rock formation in the ironwood forest as well as an optional, but highly recommended add no day tour to the ancient Halawa valley for a visit with Uncle Greg and his family – original descendants of the first peoples of Hawaii who came to this sacred valley.
Accommodation for this retreat varies – at the beautiful sanctuary we will have inexpensive dorm style accommodation or you may wish to book your own accommodation at the condo complex instead. Prices tend to be from $130 to $250 per night for studios to two bedroom units that sleep from 3 to 6.  Onsite dorm style accommodation will be on a first come first serve basis. Do not book at Hotel Molokai as it is a 90 minute drive away.  Please know that condo accommodation are non-cancellable once booked.
Meals will be provided by an onsite chef who can accomodate special diatery reserctions if communicated in advance.
To visit Molokai you will fly into to either Honolulu or Maui and then take an interisland flight to Molokai.  Interisland flights range from $39-$79 US.  Makini Kai https://www.makanikaiair.com/ or https://www.mokuleleairlines.com/
